The History

The first Royal Oak model, designed by Gerald Genta, was unveiled in 1961 and represented a significant break with the conventions of the time. Audemars Piguet took the opportunity offered by the 3126 to adapt it to the needs of its time, as well as those of other brands such as Rolex, Patek Philippe and forged stainless steel brands.

The new sub-collection of automatic watches was launched in 2012 with the release of the 15202 and 15300, the first of their kind in the world. While the 15202 was already available at that time, it became the basis for the new "15300" with 22-karat winding and rotor and a second stop.
In 2012, Audemars Piguet updated the Royal self-winding with a larger 41 mm case, which initially differentiated it from the "jumbo" and then ended up in the slightly more balanced "15300." In my opinion, the ratio of diameter to height is better, but it is still a bit too small for my taste.

The Case

This time it is an attempt by Audemars Piguet replica to create the strongest version yet, and it has a quartz movement.
